Circulation, Fines, and Due Dates

With your ID, Eagle Express card, you may withdraw library materials for two weeks at the Circulation Desk in the Studzinski Library. Renewal of materials may be requested at the Circulation Desk for two additional weeks if no other student has placed a hold on the resource.

In the 4th quarter, all library materials must be returned by the third Friday in May for processing, cataloging, and reshelfing.

The Studzinski Libary does not process interlibrary loans from public libraries.

The Studzinski Library recommends that all patrons apply for library cards from your towns and cities as well as a library card from the Boston Public Library.

Freedom to Read from the American Library Association

The A.E. Studzinski Library supports the American Library Association's [ALA] Freedom to Read statement that was first adopted by the ALA in 1953.

The A.E. Studzinski Library also supports the NCTE Student Right to Read Act (2018).

Gifts and Weeding Policies

Gifts

The A.E. Studzinski Library accepts gifts that support the current and evolving curriculum as well as the basic research needs of faculty and students. We also encourage gifts that build on established collections.

The library accepts materials that address the needs of the St. John's Prep community. All potential gifts will be evaluated in relation to the collection development goals of the library.

Knowing the alumni's love of Brother Rudolph, C.F.X., one of the great bibliophiles of St. John's Prep history, we imagine treasured alumni collections of books, inspired by Brother Rudolph as well as other Prep book lovers, that might one day join the books at the A.E. Studzinski Library.

Weeding Policies

The Studzinski Library follows the CREW [Continuous Review, Evaluation, and Weeding]  (2012) recommendations for weeding the collection.

In weeding, the library uses the MUSTIE acronym:

MUSTIE | six negative factors in determining the need to weed:

= Misleading (and/or factually inaccurate)

= Ugly (worn and beyond mending or rebinding)

= Superseded (by a truly new edition or by a much better book on the subject)

= Trivial (of no discernible literary or scientific merit; usually of ephemeral interest at some time in the past)

= Irrelevant to the needs and interests of your community

= The material or information may be obtained expeditiously Elsewhere through interlibrary loan, reciprocal borrowing, or in electronic format.
